Introduction | Judging | Prizes | Safety Instructions

Introduction

  • A highlight of the festival throughout its history has been the street parade. This is held at 11.00 AM on the Sunday of the festival and runs from Pier Street to Cherry Lake.

  • Over the years up to eighty entries have participated representing schools, churches, sporting clubs, service clubs, cultural groups, and a variety of recreational organisations.

  • In 1979 Charlie Catania’s float, representing the Maltese community, was also a winner in the Moomba Parade. He later went on to run workshop sessions for interested community groups demonstrating how to construct a float.

Judging

Parade entries are judged on the following criteria:

  • EFFORT – the amount of work that has gone into putting the entry together.

  • THEME – how well the entry has tried to incorporate elements of the Festival’s theme for 2010 - “Rhythm of the Jungle"

  • ORIGINALITY – how creative and innovative the entry is.

  • PRESENTATION – this includes appearance, behaviour of participants, and how well the entry promotes the group it is representing.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to:

  • Best Theme Entry

  • Best School/Kinder Entry

  • Best Community Group Entry

  • Best Business/Industry Entry

  • Most Innovative Entry

NB: The OVERALL WINNER will be the entry with the highest number of aggregate points from all 3 judges.
